Advanced user of Emissary.ioEmissary reached out after I left a large corporate to help their clients on projects all of them have canceled so nothing positive to report. I like the concept and idea, but do not think most firms are mature enough managerially to get the most out of these types of services. I also do not think a one-off one-hour conversation provides enough context for the work they are trying to accomplish, putting both the client and consultant in an awkward situation.
-The pay multiples less than other services like Coleman, GLG, Guidepoint.
-Scheduling is disorganized.
-Companies cancel on you at random.
-You'll put in a couple of hours filling out forms and schedules to get one one-hour call - if you are lucky, that will be a one-off 200$ per hour rate. Decent rate if there is consistent work, but that doesn't appear likely. Added up you are paid far less than any professional consulting deal you'd get.
-Better scheduling.
-Hourly rates that are commiserated to experience, market, and knowledge.
-Long-term projects.
-Paid for cancelations.
