Advanced user of UltraCompareUltra compare is fast and the default options can be configured to get the view you are looking for just right for folder or file comparisons. I change my default IDE comparison tool to this in any one that will let me. The view is clean and sharp. The git integration is a newer feature that has been very helpful as well.
It does require a yearly subscription now. But I've been using it for so long I bought a life time subscription years ago that the don't offer anymore.
This is a great external comparison tool that can highlight the changes down to control characters all the way to the directory level to make your life easier.
The folder compare is very useful when merging local dev files to an external server via ftp.
