An Enterprise Level Data Modelling Tool

What do you like best?

1. Full support for data modelling, data lineage, data governance;

2. Integration with third party databases and sql;

3. Robust support for forward-engineer and backward-enginner;

4. Support for data integration design;

5. Advance customizable reporting capability;

6. Excellent source control and release management.

What do you dislike?

1. The UI for data lineage still can be enhanced;

2. Capability to generate end to end query;

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Regarding enterprise level data modelling, I believe PowerDesigner is obvious the Top one.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We used Power Designer in our data warehouse project to migrate from SAS to Hadoop.

Power Designer provided huge benefit on the metadata design, data modelling and data lineage. We also used power designer to generate customized model related reports. We are really happy about the robust data modelling and forward-engineer capability of Power Designer. We had about 4 major designers and one architect to support modelling of different LOB with multiple phases covering concept modelling, logical modelling and physical modelling. Power Designer really handled the work pretty cool.
