Lucidchart is a visual workspace that combines diagramming, collaboration, and data visualization to accelerate understanding and drive innovation. With this intuitive, cloud-based solution, everyone can work visually and collaborate in real time while whiteboarding, brainstorming, or building flowcharts, mockups, UML diagrams, and more. Lucidchart is utilized in over 180 countries by more than 15 million users, from remote teams brainstorming creative solutions to IT directors visualizing their network infrastructure. Ninety-nine percent of the Fortune 500 use Lucidchart, and customers include Google, GE, NBC Universal, and Johnson & Johnson. Since the Utah-based company’s founding in 2010, it has received numerous awards for its product, business, and workplace culture.

Lucidchart also releases updates to user accounts every month so the program continues to improve as you use it. We support Visio import and export, and you can export your diagram as a PDF or image. Lucidchart includes all the standard libraries that you would expect from a Visio alternative, including: flowcharts, swimlanes, ERD, wireframes, Venn diagrams, mind mapping and other specialized libraries. If you don’t find the library that you are looking for, you can always create your own by importing .svg files into a new custom library.

Lucidchart is most often compared to Microsoft Visio. They are both enterprise-level diagramming products. As a Visio alternative SaaS offering, Lucidchart allows users to work on the same document at the same time as their colleagues in any modern browser.

Great Diagraming Software

What do you like best?

Lucidchart is a great diagraming and mind mapping software. I have used it to create multiple company wide documents particularly seating charts, org charts, and process flows. There's a bit of a learning curve with the platform, but overall, the tool is very intuitive. There are also a lot of great tutorials that will show you useful shortcuts and keystrokes that shave valuable time off your projects. Lucidchart also has a lot of great templates that you can use to get started, rather than starting from scratch. The self-help and feature search sections are also very helpful.

I particularly like how professional the final products are and I have received multiple positive comments on the diagrams I've created for internal training documents and announcements. I compare Lucidchart to Powerpoint and Google Slides which were my default programs I previously used to create diagrams. My biggest complaint about Powerpoint/Slides is that they have a limited amount of shapes and diagrams, and everybody recognizes their stock diagrams. Using Lucidchart will help you standout from the rest. Also, in comparing them to Powerpoint and Slides, Lucidchart is much faster to use. For example, I started creating an org chart in Powerpoint and it was very tedious and laborious to make minor adjustments vs. Lucidchart. I particularly like how the lines between boxes move with the box vs. power point where you have to manually move all the lines when the boxes are moved. In the long-run, this tool will save you and your team a lot of time.

I'm a big fan of their "free-mium" cost model. You are allowed to create up to 3 documents for free which can really get you by in a pinch, but switching to a paid account is seamless and not too expensive. I also appreciate how their sales team is not to pushy or aggressive. The integrations with Slack and Google Suite also run smooth and really helps from a collaboration standpoint.

Overall, Lucidchart is a great tool and once you master it, it will up your game. I highly recommend checking it out!

What do you dislike?

Overall, I don't really have too many complaints or issues while using the tool, but if anything, I would like a better version control system. It would also help if there was a folder system within the tool to help manage all the documents you've created.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have used Lucidchart to create org charts, seating charts, and process documents all of which can get quite meticulous to create. Lucidchart helps simplify those tasks and has helped cut the time to create them drastically.
