Yubikey usage in HIPAA environments

What do you like best?

I absolutely love Yubikeys. They're highly versatile, and can be used for so many things. Right now, for my HIPAA clients, I assign one to each user. When they walk up to a workstation, they input the key, and it acts as a smart card. The button on the key also acts as a OTP for two-factor authentication. When they step away, they pull the key out, they get logged out.

What do you dislike?

As of right now, I can't find anything wrong with Yubico and Yubikeys.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you're looking for a great solution for MFA, and user authentication, without having to have physical smart cards, or use a phone for MFA, using a Yubikey is the way to go. I primarily service HIPAA clients (medical practices) and getting them up to spec on security is often difficult. Finding a solution that allows for MFA, and user login was difficult. I was originally using smart card readers with smart cards, and using authenticator apps. This not only proved tiresome, but expensive. Having one little device which can fit into your pocket, or on a lanyard makes it easy for both me, and my clients. Everyone is happy. The price is also incredibly inexpensive given what it can do.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm solving major security login issues with Yubico. Having them as an MFA option for my clients, as well as being able to use it as a smartcard on both Windows and Mac helps make my job a little easier.
