vTiger - Flexible and Extensible, Some Stability Issues
What do you like best?
It's significantly cheaper than Salesforce, which is what we used at my last company. It's very flexible and it's easy to write custom modules for your setup, which is good. It doesn't quite have all the bells and whistles that Salesforce does, but it generally gets the job done. The web interface is easy to understand and use.
What do you dislike?
The API is a bit clunky, according to my development team. Probably the biggest issue we've had with vTiger has been stability. This may have been due to COVID, but in 2020 it feels like we were calling them because things were down a couple times per month. They were always responsive, though, so kudos for that.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Comparing vTiger to Salesforce (which is the other CRM I've worked with extensively), I'd say it's a viable alternative to save money. A few stability issues about a year ago (2020, so maybe a COVID issue), but those have cleared up. It's easy to use, and easy to add/write your own modules to do what you want. Salesforce obviously has a much larger community of users/developers, so there's more help available online, but in general I've had no real problems with vTiger. My development team has some issues with the API, but they seem to have been able to work around them, and we use workflows extensively, which have all been created in-house without outside help.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We're not using vTiger for billing, but we ARE using it to track our customers, individual user info, and contract/access information for almost 700 buildings. We've been using the Tickets module rather than the Cases module to track tickets, but that has worked fairly well. We use it for a mix of internal trouble tickets and individual customer trouble tickets.
