Fantastically reliable SIP Trunking at a great price
What do you like best?
The central management platform for all things SIP and TN related is my favorite part of Telnyx. Telnyx is very communicative on the rare occasion there are issues, and their support is phenomenally helpful with troubleshooting SIP call flow problems.
From a Managed Service Provider's perspective, Telnyx allows us to divide up and tag telephone numbers, connections, addresses (for e911), etc. This tagging is supported by Billing Groups, and has the end result of letting us quickly and easily find all numbers or connections related to a certain tenant or client.
Additionally, Telnyx's API is very easy to use and works well with our VOIP platform's Call Flow Designer for use with SMS Texting.
What do you dislike?
Telnyx's knowledgebase is somewhat lacking, and often their SIP Call Flows don't populate in their debug tool for several hours after a call has been placed. In these situations I contact support, who pull the call flow for me directly and send it to me.
I dislike how frequently and suddenly Telnyx changes their User Interface. They are currently going through a time of change, so it is to be expected, but it is still inconvenient when layouts of the interface change and much of our Telnyx documentation has to be redone. Additionally, they moved to a new system for Outbound Connections when placing SIP calls that placed mostly all of our clients into a "legacy" status and we had to go update all of them manually - a tedious process. If there was more of a warning before this occured it would not bother me as much.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are considering Telnyx, you should consider which factors are the most important to you. If customer support ranks among the highest, you should simply go with Telnyx. Telnyx support has always been an asset for us when troubleshooting our most complex SIP call flow problems.
If you're looking for the cheapest bottom dollar and don't have a lot of Telephone Numbers to port in initially, Telnyx may not be for you. Smaller business with a small pool of telephone numbers may not see the benefits a larger organization does. There is always a bit of wiggle room, so negotiate with your rep to see if it can be a good fit.
Telnyx will not support TLS1.0 in June of 2020, so if you are using older or outdated VOIP Platforms or phones, you may want to look elsewhere.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Telnyx has addressed our need for a reliable and centralized SIP trunk. Our company used several other SIP providers before we landed on Telnyx, and we are quite happy with the service they provide us.
Because Telnyx offers organizational tools like tagging and billing groups, we have been able to analyze which of our customers are costing us the most, which are the most profitable, and adjust our pricing models according.
Telnyx also offers a Slack integration which has been nice for rapid alerting when call centers have issues or SIP trunking is disrupted somewhere upstream.
