Advanced user of Talend Real-Time Big Data PlatformThe host of components available is great and most of them are available with the free open studio edition which should suffice most use cases. The option to add cuatom components is a value add.
It at times isnt as intuitive and tends to become a difficult tool to work with in the intricate level of details that need to be established. Maybe this is good thing. But with my experience using other ETL tools this seems like a big problem. The other major problem is a runtime schema propagation which is misisng on this tool but exists in IBMs (super expensive)offering.
Its java based so for transformations its a big plus if you have a java background. There are way too many options you need to address to ensure optimum performance
We use talend to connect to multiple DB's, datalakes extract data from files, websitesn ftp locations and transform it and load it into Datawarehouses.
