Oracle ZFS

What do you like best?

We can leverage ZFS as rman storage integrated with Exadata. So we can obtain full speed (Infiniband band speed) to do backup and recovery that out-perform of other existing software products.

Also it can serve as NFS to support DB like RAC. Compared to Exadata ASM, ZFS is an alternative storage option to store 2nd tier data.

What do you dislike?

The capacity and maintenance is a bit hard to manage and rely on Oracle to perform detail analysis.

The UI interface was not really user friendly to user. Not easy to identify the usage nor performance.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The expansion of the ZFS is complicated so recommend to do capacity to avoid in middle change configuration.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

If any hardware failure, such as harddisk and doing resilivering, the performance of ZFS will be degraded. After replacement, it also takes time to perform resilivering. The action cannot be adjusted or power down to avoid/minimize the service impact.
