OpenText™ Business Network is a set of solutions within Enterprise Information Management (EIM) that facilitate efficient, secure, and compliant exchange of information inside and outside of organizations.

Traditional information exchange practices have long consisted of an ad hoc arrangement of fragmented systems that don’t talk to each other, increasing business costs and security risks while slowing down transactions. With business globalization, the need for greater supply chain visibility combined with increased regulatory pressure and the advent of cloud computing, means organizations are rethinking the way they exchange information, internally and with external business partners.

OpenText Business Network delivers a comprehensive product set that accelerates time to transaction. It integrates messaging and B2B Integration services such as secure mail, large file transfer, fax and EDI within a single platform – enabling any-to-any transactions. Cloud or on-premises, Business Network enables businesses to accelerate and control how information is delivered – increasing the security and reliability of sensitive or complex communications. Our global presence ensures you can connect with customers and suppliers everywhere, including China, Brazil and Australia. Organizations can now execute transactions quickly, easily and with a higher level of confidence.

Business Network is redefining enterprise conversations by extending governance best practices across channels to ensure compliance and removing barriers by accelerating information sharing.

Horrible EDI third party provider experience

What do you like best?

I do not like Opentext. I would just never recommend them.

What do you dislike?

Opentext makes you pay for every little change, make forever to make a change, and their portal is not very good. If you are a corporation and you do EDI messages as a way to communicate with distributors/customers, do not go with them. EDI is a standard but still not straightforward way to exchange data. When setting up a new integration, new messages, many details have to be clarified with different parties involved. You must be agile in order to do edi. Changes, even small, will take days, with OpenText and they will make you pay for every little change. Even their interface to look for documents is a mess and very slow. If you want to save frustration, save your sanity, your time, and your efficiency, don't go with OpenText.

Best solution is to go with an in house EDI technical specialist with a third party application he will configure. If you have choice with taking a third party full package, negotiate to have somebody fully dedicated to your corporation.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Be careful in negotiating your contract, be very specific about services they will provide to you, include an EDI specialist in the discussion as only him knows where/how this agreement should be. I would definitely recommend to take somebody internal. This internal ressource might seem expensive, but you will end up paying more if you go through OpenText. Go for another third party provider.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

EDI messages exchange. We do not have any benefits. We were told we would save time, that we would just need to connect OpenText to our distributors, but reality is the opposite. We are not saving time on onboarding more customers through EDI because the big part of the intergration we are still doing it.
