Advanced user of MicroStationWhat do you like best?
I have always really liked the way Bentley has kept the look and feel basically the same for many years and versions. To me this is powerful and sustainable. It's pretty incredible that the performance of MicroStation has been consistent and high for many versions. Generally it's consistency and simplicity makes it a powerful platform for design and drawing production. I also believe that "Trust Licensing" is one of the greatest ideas in technology today. It's simple and incredibly easy to manage.
What do you dislike?
Just a few tools could be updated such as some of the dimension tools (being able to add a gap in a dimension line or leader that crossed another line), adding a publish type tool for publishing several drawings at a time, etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The more you use it the better you will like it. It's simplicity makes it powerful.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
CADD production - creating construction drawings for projects. Meeting state DOT standards.
The Workspaces created by state DOT's makes this very easy. Also, as mentioned above, the constancy and the effort to keep the platform relatively the same over many versions, while still providing the tools we need, helps us focus on design and production and not as much on the technology.
