At the time of initiating an exchange the platform blocks the amount at stake, so the seller will not be able to escape with your bitcoins once you pay, and this will only release once the payment is confirmed, so both parties are quite sure that they do not they will be victims of fraud for the other. You can also verify all the information of the person with whom you are negotiating, from the amount of trades completed on the platform, reputation, if their account is verified with an id card, including average payment and release times, which is very helpful for avoid exchanging with people who take their time to pay or release, something very annoying when you're in a hurry.
