Powerful Isometrics, Clunky Settings
What do you like best?
Isogen makes good Isometrics. I find that it can usually do what I want it to, and is customizable in the ways that I need it to be. It is integrated well with CADWorx, and I can usually quickly add any customization to a component quickly. I see that the program is being developed and efforts are being made to make the user experience better.
What do you dislike?
I find it difficult to navigate the settings. I don't find I-Configure user friendly at all. It is clunky and not intuitive. I also find my results as I generate isos to be inconsistent. It has gotten better in this regard from years ago, but it is still frustrating how inconsistent the output can be. Also, I would like to see a more user-friendly error screen when an error is encountered. I see a big wall between those who are familiar enough with I-Configure to efficiently set up templates etc. and users who know what they would like the iso to come out like. Much is lost in translation. A feature that is definitely missing as well is a built in ability to use line list info to populate the title block info.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Isogen is, in my experience, the industry standard isometric generation software. Using and becoming competent with the program is a very big plus on your resume, as well as it will keep your value to your company high during slower times.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We are utilizing the customization of isogen to efficiently batch produce isometrics that don't need any retouching. The time savings when doing this is significant, and we can cut down our time per iso by 25%-75%, depending on the complexity of the piping systems.
