Advanced user of IonicDeveloping using existing web knowledge was a huge plus. It also enabled us to share rapid prototypes directly in the web browser. Being able to use the dev tools built into a browser and inspect the underlying DOM/CSS was also a big plus when it came to troubleshooting any minor issues we ran into. The built int component library was sufficient for just about every UI screen we needed to implement.
I felt that the bundles created were too large for public facing PWAs, which is a bit of a let down since Ionic apps have a very polished look from the beginning that would save time on consumer facing websites.
Embrace the fact that it is based off of web technologies. Try and use the existing components that are built into the library and supported as much as possible.
We use ionic to develop iPad apps used in the field for construction companies. Ionic allowed us to rapidly stand up and iterate on these apps, which felt and looked native but were built at the speed of a website. The built in platform look and feel was intuitive for the users and was quick and responsive.
