Facebook Groups

What do you like best?

There are a ton of industry-specific Facebook discussion groups out there, as well as groups dedicated just to job postings, either by region and/or by industry. A pretty good tool for hosting discussions and forums or promoting your events or other works, with a huge user base and relative ease of use.

What do you dislike?

The tone and helpfulness of a particular group can be hit or miss, as it entirely depends on the particular users, the group culture, and the modding. Facebook itself is also not always consistent with enforcing rules against hate speech. I'm also not a huge fan of the layout and interface, and particularly the desktop site can get a bit messy and overwhelming.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Try out a variety of groups related to your industry, until you find one with a good vibe and that meets your needs, since they can be a bit hit or miss.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Facebook Groups have been a tremendous help with networking and getting help and tips from other users. I've also used them for organizing and participating in online events, and for searching for and applying for jobs.
