What do you like best?

CodeDeploy provides a simple way to deploy code onto instances and allows you to get up and running fairly quickly. Being a managed service, it also meant that no new deployment infrastructure was needed to administer drastically reducing running as well as cost to serve. CodeDeploy's deployment options allow for modern deployment practices so you have options for agile ways of getting your code out to customers. AWS documentation is well crafted, up to date and easy to follow.

What do you dislike?

Setup and packaging aren't as easy as possible, and the UI isn't as responsive as other deploy products. The agent install is a simple process to bake into an image, and the configuration file does allow some customization during the deployment process however CodeDeploy can feel limited when compared to more estabilished deployed products.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

CodeDeploy is a good choice when looking for a managed service however other products that specialize in deployments offer more customization, smoother user interfaces, as well as the ability to integrate other products and tools. CodeDeploy is geared more to application deployments, so database schema deployments will require additional tooling to gather for the database engine.

The ability to deploy application code makes CodeDeploy a compelling managed service choice in AWS. You don't need to set up and manage a license or manage pet server infrastructure. Your user access can be managed via IAM, which aligns with audit requirements as well organization standards.
