Advanced user of Toggl TrackMy company is a contract programming company and we built an invoicing program 15 years ago that does EXACTLY what I wanted and no other program at the time did. The one thing I did not want was real time/ time tracking because every method we came up with back then was too restrictive and difficult to handle if you, say, forgot to turn it on at the beginning of a meeting. So our invoicing program relies on tech entering their time manually and we made that VERY easy. I no longer have 15 employees, I utilize freelancers that I reuse and know and trust. One of them introduced me to Toggl Track because he would report his time that way in an easy, for him, to create CSV file. I built an import from that into my invoicing program (sqlserver) and it was seemless so I had to try TogglTrack. I have been using it for the last 8 months and have no interest in manually entering or tracking my time. The program is not perfect but it is definitely easy and I believe I capture more time with it then I do manually, which translates into more revenue.
The best features are starting a timer is a click and entry of the description of what you are doing or a project and task that you already have entered or even just start the timer and you can come back and enter what it was for. Almost no mater how focused you are from stress or complexity of another task you can get the timer started. In other words it's not a distraction.
That ease of starting a timer comes with a tiny downside, it's easy to start a timer you didn't mean to and then you have to stop it and delete it. I almost always notice it within a few seconds and actually I really wouldn't need to even delete it I could just ignore it in the report but since I do automated input into the invoice system it's good not to have it there. That said stopping and removing the odd entry is very easy.
Remembering to manually enter time is the bane of ALL hourly workers whether you are an independent and your revenue depends on it or a salaried employee and only your employers revenue depends on it. We have written software for all of them and every single company that needs manual timesheets laments that they don't get done real time. Toggl makes it much easier to capture the time real time
