Professional tools with ease of use and learning for Schematic and PCB
What do you like best?
Altium Designe is a professional industry tool for making Schematic and PCB designs. It is easy to learn, all tools are easy to use including the importers, exporters from other tool designs.
I have been using Altium since it was Protel99. After using Altium, you can switch to any other PCB-making tool.
The tool includes the Schematics design options for Heirarichal and straight designs. Altium can be used in a team project, every member can work on different modules and later the complete design can be combined for review and manufacturing.
What do you dislike?
As far as i have used it for almost ten years, I have found very few bugs that I reported. The team can improve the 3D viewer, I think, using some measurement tools, etc. Altium Team can try to improve the procedure of exporting from other tools like Eagle designs.
The procedure for generating Gerber files can also be improved. There should be an option to generate NC Drill files while Generating the Gerber files.
There are some problems in making template for BOM generation.
The print options for schematic and PCB are very user friendly. For getting a print of actual size of PCB, there are a lot to do in print options. It can be improved using some check box if the user want to see the PCB in actual dimensions on the paper before sending it to manufacturing.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I am using Altium Designer for Electronics schematic and PCB designing.
The tool is straightforward to use and learn fast by just following some Video lectures on Youtube. There are some PDF tutorials available in the installation which includes the whole process of making schematic and going towards PCB after verifying schematic design.
My team is using Altium Designer for Consumer Electronics related products. We have used the tool for making PCB containing more than 6 layers. Our most often PCB use four layer design.
