Auto-Update for Jamf is a cloud-based service that integrates seamlessly with Jamf Pro to provide fully automated application packaging, deployment and updating capabilities for the management of macOS devices.
Auto-Update is designed to bring the App Store-like update experience to all third party applications outside of the Mac App Store. In addition to keeping hundreds of applications updated, the dataJAR Auto-Update framework can be leveraged to provide in-place macOS upgrades for managed Mac devices, with minimal configuration required by Jamf admins.
Once configured, Auto-Update will equip Jamf Pro administrators with an extensive catalogue of more than 500 applications (we are adding more every day) that can be delivered and kept fully updated without the need for manual packaging and uploading, or the overhead of continued policy and profile administration.
As the Auto-Update framework integrates seamlessly with the macOS notifications centre, users can be presented with notifications of pending and completed updates as well as progress screens for installations, where appropriate. You can even use Auto-Update to notify your users of major macOS versions when they are available, and also to deploy those to your managed Macs.
The catalogue is updated weekly by our specialist packaging team. Applications become automatically available for deployment, either within Self Service or automatically. Titles are not released into production until they have passed a number of security checks, such as checking the Developer Signing Certificate, SHA-256 verification, and VirusTotal analysis on each package.

Auto-Update Saving Time for Jamf Admins
What do you like best?
Auto-Update has filled the hole in Jamf for Patch Management. This software frees up my time when it comes to patch management and packaging applications as this takes away the time to package updates and new software. This is a simple software to integrate and to configure for Jamf, during the integration you are shown how to use Auto-Update and I was very surprised in how easy this is to use. For this software to fully work you need two configuration profiles and one policy, as soon as this is done Auto-Update is ready to go. Auto-Update has a massive range of software in the catalogue which as long as a policy is created this will then push out the installation of the software which has been configured either via Self Service or hidden in the background making the installation and configuration of this works like magic as this can take no more then a minute or two to get setup.
What do you dislike?
There is nothing to dislike about this product as this is a simple product to use and maintain.

Make sure to check the catalogue on Auto-Updates website for software which is available to make sure this meets your needs. Speak to the team at Auto-Update, Chris was really helpful and demonstrated this product within a few days of me enquiring. Couple of applications are added every week and to ask the question about adding any software your business may use if there is anything missing. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Patch Management was a issue with Jamf as this was high maintenance to keep on top of as we have multiple departments under our business ranging from Production Managers, Designers and Developers. We have around 90 software installed across our Jamf instance and Auto-Update allows me to keep 3/4 of our software up to date without the need for me to spend time packaging updates for all apps. The benefits of this is the amount of time Auto-Update saves me to carry on my day to day job as the patch management in Jamf is nearly a full time role. Auto-Update also allows us to be compliant with ISO 27001. Since moving onto Jamf this has improved the security for our Mac's and Auto-Update is a must have add-on for saving time and pushing out already configured software and to keep all software up to date. Auto-Update has given me the time to finish off the little issues we've had left to resolve with Jamf and this has allowed myself to increase admin time with more pressing matters of the Auto Deployment part of Jamf and rolling Jamf out to the rest of our business. Once setup this will tick over in the background without the need for an admin to do any config changes.
