Unitrends Backup

What do you like best?

Solution just works. Have been using Unitrends for several years and it just works. The Appliances are nice and the licensing is simple with all the features enabled. We previously use Dell backup ( Appassure ) and Backup Exec previously and the Unitrends move has been a good investment for us. The Support is top notch! Have not had one bad experience in that area and all reps were knowledgeable and quickly help us resolve any issues that we encountered.

What do you dislike?

Don't have many items that we wish we had in the Unitrends solution but if I had to list a few the following would make the list. No item level restore for exchange. Probably less of an issue with O365 or other online email solutions but would be nice for those of us that are still on-prem. Can't really thing of much else to dislike. The Maintenance and support is a bit pricey but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Would be nice to have the ability to do agentless backups in KVM ( or Scale more specifically for us ) so we don't have to take down servers to upgrade the agents.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you want item level restore for Exchange you will need to check on the options they have for that ( 3rd party ). Appliances are more exspensive up front but include all the capabilities and unlimited licensing. Appliances can backup to cloud ( unitrends, amazon, wasabi with a little work, etc ).

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Onsite backup of resources. The product works well and restore are quick and painless. Interface is intuitive. We have been able to setup our 2 appliances to backup to Wassabi's cloud for long term retention. Unitrends has several offerings and we have not utilized much else but their Backup Appliances work well and have provided reliable and scalable backup for us.
