SHANTANU GUPTA 1.
Advanced user of ProtГ©gГ©This free open source application is developed by the Stanford University scientists and developers which makes it more reliable and a quality product among other competitors. It has a very fast growing user community with a suite of tools to construct domain models. As the data on the web is increasing exponentially, this is very useful platform for semantic web-mining and technologies. It is well optimized for collaboration and is cross-compatible with protege desktop. The best part is that it supports creation and editing of ontologies using a customizable user interface. The user interface is quite friendly and easily understandable.
The thing that is dislike about protege is that we need to have a knowledge about semantic web technology to use it. Even though the ui is friendly but unless we have enough information about RDF, turtle, OWL formats we will not be able to use it. The user community is growing but as of now the community is not that strong. It is definitely grow in the upcoming time. There is not much awareness and information about this so it is pretty tough learn and master protege as an absolute beginner.
The should be more information and documentation about the platform for beginners. It becomes really difficult for a beginner to gather information on the web as it is difficult to do so.
Protege is a powerful tool and has helped me in gaining practical knowledge about RDF, Turtle, OWL/XML, OBO formats. I have done project of showing the layout of departments in a University scenario. This software has helped me analyze the subtle shades in the meaning of the data on the web.
