Microwave planning engineer for Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia, Huawei, for short and long haul links.
What do you like best?
The interface is a friendly, stand-alone tool, price (lowest in the market).
What do you dislike?
There are no many options to compute automatically links budgets for big networks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a friendly tool as long as you know what is behind it - theory and formulas. Pathloss is not an automated tool like IQ link, Atoll.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I used Pathloss for day by day activity, mainly for the design (link budget) and interference computation of microwave point-to-point links for pre-sales and post-sales process. The outcome for pre-sales was translated into a BoQ and for post-sales network optimization.
Pathloss works relatively easily with import input data (sites, links) and export results. It can also export the network layout to Google Earth (.kmz).
In my activity, Pathloss was suitable because I had projects in different countries in the world (today in Europe, tomorrow in Africa, other in Asia). Specific parameters can be quickly configured and equipment imported.
I used Pathloss for a long time (12 years), versions 4 and 5, for all kinds of situations.
