OpenToonz is software for producing a 2D animation. It is based on the software “Toonz”, which was developed by Digital Video S.p.A. in Italy, customized by Studio Ghibli, and has been used for creating its works for many years. Dwango launches this OpenToonz project, in cooperation with Digital Video and Studio Ghibli.

Advanced user of OpenToonzI love Opentoonz. When I first downloaded it (for free), I didn't understand it much, but once I spent a little time in it, I got a hang of the animations. If you're struggling to understand, the program, there are a lot of helpful tutorials out there. It is a great program to learn basic animations on. I really recommend this for 2d animations. I was able to import art from procreate into opentoonz and continue animation.
Not a very self explanatory software. I had to look up some help, but it worked out in the end (youtube tutorials).
If you're using it, don't be afraid to look for outside help if you dont understand the software
