Advanced user of Naviga AlertThe best thing about NewsEdge V8 is its customizability -- I can create multiple feeds that are specific to what I want or need. Also, the speed is great and it is very fast with SEC filings. Perhaps the best thing is the price -- for news I consider it to be almost as good as the top professional options -- ThompsonReuters Eikon (which I used for two years and which costs over 5x as much) and Bloomberg. Keep in mind that it doesn't offer many of the other features of those programs, but for news it is far easier to use and is just as good (with the only exception being that it doesn't offer the high-value breaking-news reports of Reuters or Bloomberg journalists). NewsEdge's quick alerts on new SEC filings on certain stocks have literally saved me tens of thousands of dollars.
The worst thing about NewsEdge V8 is its email notification system. It relies on Microsoft Outlook on the host computer and any time I shut the program down (for example weekends) and then bring it back up it will send me scores of notifcation emails. Having an app for iPhone/Android would be much better (faster and more reliable) than relying on email.
Get it.
I use NewsEdge V8 to provide me with news, SEC filings, and tweets that I think might move stocks, and any relevant news/filings/tweets on stocks that are in my portfolio. It is almost endlessly customizable -- for example, I have a custom newsfeed I designed for small-cap stocks that includes PRs and SEC filings that I think might move stocks. The program reads out the headlines out loud and highlights certain words in the headlines. Also, the program's built-in categorization of information allows for much more custimization than even I have tried. It would work well to support algorithmic trading as well. By using the program's analysis of events and how important they are I can have it give me only useful / impactful news (or particularly tweets) while sparing me from having to review lots of irrelevant info.
