Microsoft IIS Server - from a web developers view
What do you like best?
I've been using IIS server for many years and the graphical interface makes it easy to maintain and change different settings without having to manually go into configuration files and edit them. Managing different site settings and addons is made easy via the easy to use interface.
What do you dislike?
Unlike other web servers like Apache, it can be quite hard to configure for certain sites if they require something more technical and in-depth. There may be the need to purchase certain add-ons in order to emulate the Apache environment which can be costly at times.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend IIS to beginners and experienced IT consultants due to its ease of set up and the amount of support available on the internet. If you are ever stuck then a simple search will always bring back a solution that somebody else has asked for.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I manage many sites on our VPS using IIS and it has helped speed up setting up new sites and changing PHP versions, along with any extra settings that may be required. The log files can be as detailed or as simple as required allowing you to debug any issues.
