Software that keeps all your lab management worries at bay
What do you like best?
Genemod provides an integrated solution for management of freezer inventory, project management and much more.
Inventory management tool: This software is extremely time saving as you don't have to go through several excel sheets (often several versions of each) by past and present members of the research group. It helps you to keep all your reagents (antibodies, plasmids, cell freezes) organized in the freezers and find/share their exact location thereby reducing the risk of reagent wastage due to unnecessary thawing which usually occurs when freezers are kept open for longer duration while searching manually.
Project management tool:
Helpful when you have to manage multiple smaller teams working on different projects.
Group meetings become easier when you have all the information such as the available reagents, standardized protocols etc. all available at one place for a quick glance so that the future experiments can be planned.
What do you dislike?
1) DNA sequence option needs improvement.
2) The inventory tool still depends on users having to make an entry while taking out a reagent. Having a sort of automated way for eg. barcode reader would be helpful.
3) Integrating a calendar in the project management tool (may be along with the goal) might be helpful to monitor the due dates for tasks/goals assigned in the projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This product is definitely worth investing especially if you have a rapidly growing research group or have a regular turnover of trainees.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
As any published reagent (plasmid/ strain etc) needs to be made available upon request even after several years, the inventory management tool proves to be of great use. Genemod saves time and efforts often lost in searching for reagents in the lab.
Such a software also makes even more sense during the COVID times where social distancing regulations have forced people in lab to work in staggered shifts. With Genemod all members of the group will have access to information on available reagents in the lab.
