Fast implementation, extensible and powerful, some features continuing to mature
What do you like best?
Excellent Cloud Management Platform, has great features and makes automating existing infrastructure possible while also allowing for greenfield deployments as well. Plugs into any API, and has a scripting engine that makes possible what many other tools fail at. Great reporting functions and excellent user portal.
What do you dislike?
They are transitioning their Integrated API to a newer version and has resulted in some bifurcation of the API where you need to use both the old and new version to perform all functions if you want o do do API driven workflows.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at the overall business case and consider the number of tools required to reach your goal. Be aware that you will need some technical expertise to do some of the integrations, but it will only take one tool to manage everything when you are done.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We had multiple business cases that were seeking solutions. A service portal for end users to self provision resources that did not require elevated rights to our IT systems such as vSphere and DNS. A way to report on system ownership and life-cycle based on Business Unit or other criteria including show-back/charge-back. Full life-cycle management of systems and services with automatic provisioning and de-provisioning based on business specific criteria. The ability to run our existing datacenter as a private cloud without having to buy additional hardware and software outside of the vCommander Product. A single interface for our on-premises and public cloud offerings to be managed. This tool actually addresses all of those and more.
