What do you like best?

Citrix Virtual App and Desktop is the leading VDI solution that offers excellent performance with its own native ICA/HDX Protocol. If we compare the performance of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop with its major competitors like Amazon Workspace or Microsoft Virtual Desktops that works with RDP protocol, Citrix ICA/HDX protocol has much better performance with session reliability and low bandwidth performance. Furthermore, Citrix has different machine provisioning services including MCS and PVS which makes it easy to provision VDI with custom images in bulk. It comes with great features that could be easily configured to provide great end user VDI experience.

What do you dislike?

Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop is although a great VDI solution with great performance, it is tough to troubleshoot some issues sometimes. A simple VDI registration issue could be due to multiple reasons and it could give you a hard time figuring what exactly is causing the issue. However, Citrix Knowledge base is a great resource that helps with troubleshooting most known Citrix issues.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Citrix Native streaming protocol ICA/HDX offers far better performance that works well with even low bandwidth internet connections. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop is a complete solution that comes with great features for delivery and streaming, user experience, management, security, and monitoring.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My college is using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop to deliver virtualized high-end student applications. Students access applications like Visual Studio, AutoCAD, and other applications that require high-end computing resources. These application virtualized on high-end servers are accessed by users with a light-weight client Citrix Workspace.
