Calabash

What do you like best?

Calabash has been designed as a cross platform application which can be used to create and run automated tests for your mobile apps including Android and iOS. It provides a set of libraries and APIs which are helpful in enabling the test code for interacting with the native apps such as gesture and screenshots.

It is an open source tool which is free to be used by any developer and has backing from Xamarin which has developed it. Its main benefits are: well documented, easy to integrate for the first time, iOS & Android support, Regular updated being released and readable tests.

What do you dislike?

I had a positive experience with Calabash irrespective of minor glitches in the tool. Sometimes it was not easy to inspect all elements. Also you need the Android Application Package (.apk) for running the tests and it can't be done without that.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It is a helpful tool for testing mobile apps quickly and efficiently.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The most beneficial thing about Calabash is that I don't need to write my code in Java and can be easily written in Ruby which is usually a better option for writing tests cases. Also it has got APIs which are able to support the latest touch screen devices in the market and thus making the interaction easier and smooth.

The test cloud provided by Xamarin is of utmost help as I can select any device based on certain filters such as OS, Manufacturer, and Popularity.
