Advanced user of BettermentAutomated rebalancing, tax loss harvesting, tax-coordinated portfolio feature, low costs, index fund approach, fractional ETF shares, incredible user interface. Clients love the mobile app. All in all Betterment is fresh, modern, and it makes clients feel like their old investment company was old and archaic.
Nothing I dislike too much. I wish there was the ability to combine the use of Vanguard ETF's and DFA funds as a partner advisor, but you are stuck choosing between either the Betterment Flexible models (with mostly Vanguard ETF's) or a model of all DFA funds.
Even if the platform doesn't have 100% of everything you'd like, I would consider taking the long-term view and aligning yourself with a company and service that is at the leading edge of automated investment management and consistently implements additional features every year.
The amount of time, paperwork, and administrative burden is reduced significantly in the Betterment experience compared to using any traditional brokerage or custodian. The process of investment management is so much more automated and less manual with their platform. They have a good reputation with millennial and Gen X investors, so if that's your market than there's some good validation there. Betterment is built to incorporate the main tenets of strategic asset allocation philosophy at a low cost and with efficiency driven by technology, not manual management by a human.
