Apparity is the smartest platform for banks and insurers looking to efficiently manage spreadsheet risk. Apparity is designed to securely discover, inventory, control and automate all the key events during the lifecycle of mission critical end user computing (EUC) applications such as financial spreadsheets, databases, scripts, and others.

Apparity is designed to take EUC controls to the next level, providing business process automation and change management workflow that actually saves customers time and money. While spreadsheets, databases and other forms of EUC applications have been in use for decades, the heightened awareness of these applications and the risks they pose to an organization is relatively recent.

Apparity addresses each facet of a comprehensive financial spreadsheet policy with Discovery, Registration and Active Management modules. These three modules seamlessly integrate with one another when used together. They can also operate independently for organizations seeking to address a singular need.

With Apparity, a file detected using Discovery can be moved to Registration with a click of a button in the Apparity Inventory Management System (AIMS). Files under Active Management automatically populate the AlMS Managed/ Registered inventory for a comprehensive look into the EUC environment. The connectivity between modules increases efficiency by saving time and through a best in class user experience.

An adaptable product with great customer service

What do you like best?

Apparity comes with a suite of tools that allow you to not only discover, but rate and record risky spreadsheets and access databases so that you can implement basic SDLC controls in a business friendly environment. Apparity makes it easy by calling out only what has changed for review, and allows you to filter out what you would consider "noise" which allows your reviewers to easily sign off on the changes and get back to work on their day jobs. It also comes with some basic version control if, for some reason you need to roll back to a known, working version of your spreadsheets. Overall this tool fills a gap in the control environment without too much overhead, which lets your first line do their jobs while still mitigating risks.

In addition, the customer support has been fantastic, going above and beyond a traditional vendor experience to ensure a seamless deployment and operational phase.

What do you dislike?

While the tool works great most of the time, when it doesn't work, you'll need the vendor to support and troubleshoot errors as this is a niche tool and you may need to learn as you go. Don't expect to be able to go out and hire someone with experience to support the software.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The stand-out feature for Apparity is their ability to filter "noise" (and to let you define what you consider to be noise) in the change logs. This feature makes it stand out among its competitors

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Apparity you are able to keep an inventory of user developed software, which allows you to know where your risks are and determine if they are within your risk appetite. Once onboarded, you can keep a change log using the tool, and roll back to previous versions if necessary, either to resolve a production issue, or for a quick turnaround in the case of an audit
