My editor of choice

What do you like best?

Ultraedit has been my text editor of choice since I bought a lifetime upgrade license as a poor student. Back then, it was one of the most sofisticated text editing tools in existence, and I loved the power of scripting, hex editing, html support and built-in ftp client. While I often use other editors for my work as a software developer, I regularly return to UltraEdit because some features are just easier to use, or only available there. It does great work on huge files, and the column editing features are a life saver.

What do you dislike?

I don't enjoy using UltraEdit for software development. To me, it lacks many features of a full-fledged IDE, and so I switch between two or three editors depending on the purpose of my editing.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I regularly use UltraEdit for generating boilerplate code from lists of properties, regex replacing in huge files, and for prettifying xml, json and other formats for easier reading.
