What do you like best?
In short a really excellent product at a reasonable price. I use OpenLM to compile statistics on ArcGIS Desktop usage for roughly 400 users. The reports and statistics I get from OpenLM are invaluable. They assist us in budgeting, planning, and user support.
The interface and architecture is relatively straightforward and easy to use. For those looking to track usage of Esri software it has several features that are extremely useful. One is an agent that can quickly be installed on users computers that will automatically uncheck extensions upon the user exiting an mxd. Anyone who understands the check out/check in process for extensions will realize what a great feature this is as it will lead to less "denials" for future users looking to acquire a license.
OpenLM integrates with Active Directory which is another huge plus as the reports and real time information include any information in the Active Directory store.
The OpenLM support staff is very helpful and courteous. Definitely one of the better user experiences I have had over the years.
What do you dislike?
Nothing really. The only pitfall I have run into is when the Esri license server is upgraded the configuration for OpenLM has to change. The help documentation could be a little more robust.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
OpenLM is a really useful product.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I am monitoring software usage and providing reports to supporting budgeting and customer service. I am also better managing my licenses. Further I am able to give users a tool to see who else is using software they might need and an easy way to get their contact info. I provide reports to our entire staff that help us better understand our users and help shape the way we provide training, support, and application development.
