Note is a Multipurpose Tool

What do you like best?

It functions well as a mail client and has an integrated Sametime IM client, which is very convenient. All the essentials for email, calendars, tasks/to do lists are all there to keep you well connected to your colleagues and other database applications development in Notes. We have lot of internally developed applications/databases built in Notes so it is really an essential tool we use for day to day operations in addition to being a communications and an tool to stay organized.

What do you dislike?

With some of the applications, we were experiencing some glitches and various synchronization issues and also suffered from performance issues. These could very well have had to do with our own internal developers and IT infrastructure and aren't necessarily reflective of Notes itself as Notes really functioned well for all of its core functions. The decreasing popularity and its lack of integration with popular Microsoft based products makes it a little less appealing to keep around in the long term based on where the market has gone in the past decade.

The IM client is dated and lacks addition functionality of audio/video. I believe this is because we're on an older version as I think the newer version do have this functionality. Once again this has more to do with my organization's direction and less to do with the applications functionality.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

You have to consider how well this product will fit within your organization's future direction with regards to software suites as Microsoft's Office Suite with various online integrations is very quickly adding functionality that Notes can't keep up with.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The flexibility and powerful customized applications developed internally by my organization managed to fulfill the needs of my organization when other solutions in the market would have been cost prohibitive.
